Above and Beyond for Animals: She Jumped Out of a Car for a Dog!
Last week on the Speaking of Animals podcast, Meagan Pattik, who adopted a senior dog named Max from the Flagler Humane Society, joined host Amy Carotenuto to share her stories about devotion to animals.
Pattik explained how she and her spouse centered their wedding around their pets, skipping the groomsmen and bridesmaids to have their dogs at their sides. One dog wore a bandana named “man’s best dog,” and another wore one that read “pup of honor.” They were able to show respect to their pets and treat them like cherished family members on their special day.
She also recounted a dramatic and dangerous incident. Driving on Nova Road in Port Orange, she spotted a small Chihuahua sprinting through heavy traffic. While her husband slowed down and followed the dog, honking to alert other drivers, Pattik jumped from the moving car to try to catch the runaway dog, and luckily, she suffered no major injuries. However, she did suffer some bleeding and bruises. “I risked my life for your dog, too,” she said.
