Flagler Humane Society has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in Flagler County since 1982. As the only animal shelter serving the community, we provide compassionate care and shelter to homeless, abandoned, and stray animals across Palm Coast, Bunnell, Flagler Beach, and surrounding areas.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to fulfill our mission of saving lives and finding forever homes for animals in need. While we maintain contracts with the City of Palm Coast and Flagler County to house stray animals brought in by animal control officers and court case animals from throughout the county, the majority of our funding comes from donations and proceeds from our thrift store, which accounts for approximately 30% of our operating income.
We are proud to adopt out over 90% of the animals that come into our care, which meets the definition of a “no-kill” shelter. However, we choose not to label ourselves as such, as the term can be misleading. In rare cases, we must make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize animals that are deemed dangerous or are too seriously or terminally ill to live comfortably. Every decision is made with the utmost compassion and focus on the welfare of the animals and the safety of our community.
Under the dedicated leadership of our Executive Director, Amy Carotenuto, we strive to create a safe haven for every animal that comes through our doors. Whether it’s providing medical care, finding loving homes, or advocating for responsible pet ownership, we are committed to making a difference for the animals and people in our community.
Together, we can continue to save lives and create a more humane future. Join us in our mission today!
