Our next in-person New Volunteer Orientations will be on:
Sunday, September 14th, 2025
Potential volunteers need to complete an application and attend orientation, or pass the online orientation, before beginning.
To become a dog walking volunteer, you need to complete our "New Volunteer Orientation", which is available online or in person, and also the "Dog Walker Orientation", which is only available in person, at our shelter once a month, every second Sunday of the month.
In-Person New Volunteer Orientations are every second Sunday of the month, at 1 pm in the shelter's education room.
New Dog Walker Orientations are directly after, at 2 pm, in the education room.
Outreach Adoption Orientations are at 4 pm, in the education room.
Please make a reservation by emailing volunteer@flaglerhumanesociety.org at least 24 hours before the Orientation you wish to attend.
You must complete the dog walking orientation before becoming a dog walker. Stop by for the volunteer orientation and then stay for the dog walking orientation as well!
We accept volunteers ages 14 and above. Please note that some volunteering positions are only available with an adult supervisor who is at least 18 years old.

Court Ordered Community Service
- Must be Court-ordered Community service hours.
- Must come to FHS in person to complete paperwork.
- Must provide court paperwork that lists your charges.
- Must fill out a community service application and be approved prior to doing hours.
- Must arrive at 8:30 a.m. and stay for a minimum of four hours.
- Must have permission from a manager to complete hours on Sunday.
Volunteer Hours for School Credit
- Must complete a Volunteer Application (online or in person).
- Must attend a Volunteer Orientation.
- The student’s age may determine what the student can do and where they can go.
- We accept volunteers ages 14 and above. Please note that some volunteer positions require an adult supervisor who is at least 18 years old.
- Please bring your own paperwork for us to sign off on and provide to the school.
