Trooper, a Great Pyrenees, came to the Flagler Humane Society last July. He was underweight at 76 pounds, matted, had injuries, and was heartworm positive. His health was restored thanks to the shelter staff’s meticulous care. Today, the gorgeous, 110-pound dog is an active Ambassador Dog, giving back to the community that saved him.

Trooper and his owners are passionate volunteer advocates for the shelter. Meg, who spent 31 years as a licensed veterinary technician, initially started volunteering to drive the truck for adoption outreach events, helping all the animals at the shelter to find their forever home.

As an Ambassador Dog team, they visit local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and memory care facilities, including Tuscan Gardens Senior Living and Harbor Chase Senior Living, spreading joy to children learning to read and to seniors who once had pets of their own. “They light up when they see him,” Meg says.
